Campaigns: Carer Alicia Mehaffey Speaks Out on the High Cost of Food

22nd October 2025

Our Lived Experience Campaigner Alicia Mehaffey has spoken to BBC Northern Ireland following reports that UK inflation rate remains at 3.8% for third month in a row.

Although she is in employment and receiving support from us, Alicia told BBC News NI that, at times, she has been forced to skip meals to ensure there is enough to feed her daughter:

“Without Foyle food bank, I’d have a lot more trouble trying to afford everything on my own, and this makes it a little bit easier but it’s still quite hard.”

Last year, our organisation experienced our busiest year yet – supporting over 10,000 people across the Foyle area.

Alicia’s story is one of many. Together, at Foyle Network Foundation, we believe a different future is possible. Poverty is not inevitable, but we need your support to create the future we want to see.
